Teacher Assistant - Mr. Pelton’s Class
Ms. Wilkey is a teacher assistant in Mr. Pelton’s 9-12 classroom. This will be her second year at DMA. Ms. Wilkey attended Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon for two years and completed her paraprofessional training. During that time, she had her practicum in a special education classroom in an elementary school in Oregon. After college, she continued to work in that same classroom. Along with her experience in the elementary school environment, Ms. Wilkey also has worked in a middle school and high school setting, working with students (mostly in special education) from as young as 3 years old up to 21 years old. Much of Ms. Wilkey’s experience is with students on the Autism spectrum, and she hopes on day to become an Autism Specialist. Ms. Wilkey moved to Utah one year ago and began at Dixie Montessori Academy. In her first year at DMA, Ms. Wilkey learned a lot about the Montessori method from working with Mr. and Mrs. Pelton and also from reading and research. During the summer, Ms. Wilkey had the opportunity to attend some of the Montessori training that was offered at the school. Ms. Wilkey is very happy to work at Dixie Montessori Academy. The philosophy of the school is very similar to her teaching philosophy. Ms. Wilkey loves her job, and especially loves the students she works with. She hopes to learn much more in the years to come and looks forward to helping the students achieve success.
