Our wonderful Special Education Staff at Dixie Montessori Academy
Peter D. Burnes is a Special Education teacher at the DMA. He has 10 years’ experience in public education. Mr. Burnes has been teaching since the 2010-2011 school year. Before joining DMA he taught 3rd through 8th-grade students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Clark County Nevada School District.
Mr. Burnes holds Master’s Degrees from UNLV in Special Education with endorsements in Autism, Resource, and Mild to Moderate Disabilities. He also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, from BYU and a Master’s in Business Administration from UNLV.
Mr. Burnes believes all students have a desire to learn. He sees Special Education’s goal is that of giving support to students in special education so that they can master academic, functional, and social skills and enjoy success in life to the highest degree, given their unique learning needs.
Joyelle Turley is a part of the paraprofessional staff in the Special Education department at Dixie Montessori Academy. This is her third year at DMA. Joyelle graduated from Southern Virginia University with a Bachelors of Art in Liberal Studies and is personally a mother of 3. She enjoys working one on one with the children at DMA and is looking forward to a great year.
