Salt Lake City, Utah – April 13, 2013
The Utah State Office of Education unanimously voted their approval on April 5 for the funding of Dixie Montessori Academy (DMA) opening August 2014, securing its share of Utah’s $3.8 billion education budget .
With funding in place, DMA can now move forward choosing a final site, building the facility and staff selection.
During the funding meeting, DMA was noted by the USOE board’s leadership as having written an exceptional charter application and has a dedicated, professional Founding Board of Directors.
DMA’s board of directors began writing the charter application in February 2012. After much refinement, the charter application was presented to the USOE Charter Board in November 2012. The application was well received and on February 14, 2013 the school was given approval from the Chartering Board.
Lead by Ms. Julie Wand, president of DMAs founding board, the new charter school is expected to completely fill its allotted 410 seats in grades K-7 opening in August 2014 for the 2014/2015 school year. Ms. Wand brings over 25 years of experience as a professional Montessori educator and has been selected as the schools Director upon its opening.
DMA will be the only public school in Southern Utah to offer a Montessori curriculum. For additional information about Montessori, visit our website: dixiemontessoriacademy.org
